The context

Finding the way in a large, complex site

Cardales de Cayalá is a premium retail destination in Guatemala. The site is large and architecturally complex, so finding a specific venue is not always obvious for a visitor. The goal had two parts: guide people through it without friction, and reinforce the destination's premium positioning. The answer had to go further than a map: draw the route to the chosen venue, then stay with the visitor away from the screen.

Design and build

From the screen to the visitor's phone

We built the wayfinding platform on a 3D map of the mall. A visitor picks a venue on the map, and its card opens with buttons to call or get directions. The screen then draws the route step by step. A QR code hands the itinerary over to the visitor's phone, so they can follow it while they walk. Behind the scenes, an administrator login and an updatable venue directory keep the information current.

  1. 01

    3D map of the mall

A 3D map with venue pins lets visitors read a large, architecturally complex site at a glance, before they start walking.

  2. 02

    Step-by-step routes

Once a venue is chosen, the screen draws the route to it step by step, next to a card with call and directions buttons.

  3. 03

    QR handoff to mobile

A QR code transfers the itinerary to the visitor's phone, so the route stays with them once they leave the screen behind.

  4. 04

    Updatable venue directory

The venue directory can be updated, so the map keeps reflecting the venues on site as they change.

Outcomes

Frictionless visits, busier key venues

Visitors move through Cardales de Cayalá without friction: they find the venue, see the route and carry it on their phone. Key venues get more foot traffic, and the wayfinding itself reinforces the destination's premium image. For JCDecaux Guatemala, the platform is also a base for smart retail.
